Health

For some people, the biggest concern about varicose veins is the way they look. But there are possible links between varicose veins and serious health problems involving blood clots in the deeper veins of your legs.

Douglas Joseph, DO, Director of Cleveland Clinic’s Vascular Medicine Outpatient Department, offers his best advice on how to limit the impact of varicose veins and when you should be concerned.

Medicina Familiar

Are you the kind of person who always needs a pile of blankets no matter what the thermostat says? Sure, we all feel the freeze on a cold winter’s day or the mechanical chill of the office air conditioner. But if you’re constantly shivering no matter the temp, there may be more going on.

Plenty of people are simply warm-natured (as in, prefer it to be warmer!), and any temperature below a certain threshold will induce a chill.

Diet

“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!” We’ve all heard the saying, right? Well, if you’re not a wake-up-hungry sort of person, it’s probably an idea that’s tough to swallow.

But here’s the question: Are you really harming your health if you skip breakfast?

We asked registered dietitian Beth Czerwony, RD, if breakfast really is “the most important meal of the day.” (Spoiler alert: She’s a big fan of starting days with some nutritional intake to perform your best.)

Eating breakfast provides energy to power into your day and help your body perform at its best.

“Would you start a long road trip in your car with the tank on empty?” asks Czerwony. “Think of eating breakfast the same way. You’re asking a lot of your body to get moving using only your reserves.”
